Res 1436-63 RESOLUTION NO. 1436
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF T~E CITY
OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA URGING THE PALM BEACH
COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION AND THE SUPERINTENDENT
OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION TO CONSIDER STEPS TO AL-
LEVIATE THE OVER-TAXED S~HOOL FACILITIES IN THE
GREATER DELRAY BEACH AREA.
WHEREAS, the Greater Delray Beach Area is on the thresh-
old of a significant l~opulation boom~ and
W~EREAS, the City Council realizes that recent popula-
tion gains have already over-taxed the educational facilities of
this area~ and
W~EREAS, a complete "plant survey" of every school in
Palm Beach County is planned from March 4 - 8 by a 28 man inspec-
tion team to determine what additions and new buildings will be
necessary to meet the county's growth in the next five years~ and
~LEREAS, the City Council feels that there is presently
a critical need for the expansion of the educational facilities
of the Greater Delray Beach Area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS=
1. That the Palm Beach County Board of Education and
the Superintendent of Public Instruction acquaint the aforesaid
inspection team with the critical need for the expansion of educa-
tional facilities in the Greater Delray Beach Area.
2. That said Board and the Superintendent of Public
Instruction should call to the attention of the inspection team
the following minimum improvements for Seacrest High School=
a. A new cafeteria.
b. An expanded library.
c. An expanded industrial arts area.
d. A choral music room.

for a technical school to serve both the white md negro population
of the Greater Delray Beach Area. A tremendously high percentage
of the local students are terminal education students at the ~elfth
grade, and it is believed that such a program would greatly aid the
South Palm Beach County area in meeting the demands of tourism and
industry.

lity of replacing the elementary school at the intersection of

condition of Spady Elementary School.
