Res 1394-62 RESOLUTION NO. 1394 RESOLUTION PROVIDING THAT ALL MEETINGS OF ALL BOARDS, ELECTIVE OR APPOINTIVE, LEGISLATIVE OR ADVISORY, SHALL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WHENEVER PUBLIC AFFAIRS ARE TO BE DISCUSSED. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the CITY OF DELRAY BEACH be- lieves that all Boards, elective or appointive, legislative or ad- visory, as representatives of the people should permit the public to attend all meetings and that no meetings barring public and press should be conducted under the guise of convenience to discuss mat- ters of public interest or decisions rendered of any kind, relative to public matters; and WHEREAS, the City Commission feels that it is the right of the people to know the doings and activities of their elected representa- tives and their appointees, which right is as fundamental as the right of free speech and is one of the major constitutional rights which makes our country a great democracy, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH: SEC~I. 0N l: That this Commission and all of the advisory boards and committees appointed by the City Commission shall conduct all future meetings in open session and that the press and the public shall be welcome to attend any meetings wherein public affairs are to be discussed, even though final action of such matters to be dis- cussed cannot be taken Until a regular meeting or specially called meeting. SECTION 2: That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Legislative Delegation, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, President of the Senate of the State of Florida, and that the City request the Florida Legislative Delegation to amend the Charter of the CITY OF DELRAY BEACH at the next session of the Florida Legis- lature to require all meetings of the Commission and all advisory boards to be open to the public. ~ SECTION ~: All ordinances or resolutions or parts of ordinances or resolutions in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby re- pealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 4: This resolution shall be in force and shall take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS day of April, 1962. MAYOR ATTEST: City Clerk
