07-16-56SpMtg 139 JULY 16TH, 1956 A ~pecial Heettng of the City Coemission was held in the Co-~ission Chambers at 7:30 P. H., withHayor Hike Yargates in the Chair, City Hanager W. E. Lawson Jr., City Attorney John H. Ad~s, and the following Comission Hembers being present, Catherine Strong, W. J. Snow, Emory J. Barrow and Howard Lee Cromer, the full Co~mis~on being in The City Hanager advised 'the Coeenisston that Bids, for the construction of the ~estside Pool and Bath House, were opened at 11:00 A. H., Friday, July 13th, 1956, the results thereof being as follows: Carter Construction Company $ 63,200.00 Albert ¥. Pope 83,299.15 Riviera Pools 58,243°00 Sto~ell Construction Company 64,000.00 City Hanager W. E. Lawson Jr., further informed the Commission that a performance bond of 100~ of contract awarded ~ould be furnished by the successful bidder. City Co~lssloner Howard Lee Cromer requested that, in the future, a ~Bld Bond~ amounting to five (5) percent bid submitted be requested from all persons submitting any bid to the City of Delray Beach on an ~provement project. Hr. G. Allen, of Hlvtera Pools, stated, in response to inquiry from the Commission, that no delay of steel products nor other materials to be used in this construction is anticipated at this time, as he had been assured by manufacturer of satisfactory delivery in order was placed in the near future. Hr. Allen further advised the Commission that from his knowledge of materials availability at this time, only filter equipment could possibly cause any delay. Commisslmaer Sno~ then moved that the contract be awarded ~o the lowest bidder. Hotion was sedonded by Commissio~er Strong and unanimously carried. Commissioner Snow requested '~r. Allen, of Riviera Pools, to advise the Commission, immediately, at any ti~e there appeared to be any delay apparent in effecting delivery of any materials necessary for the construction and completion of this project. Hr. Allen agreed to so notify the City Commission if any delay seemed i~sninent and furthermore to make every possible effort to effect completion of the project at the earliest possible date. ~r. Allen inquired if Gunite construction off the Pool, rather than Heinforced Poured Concrete, would be permitted and City H~nager Lawson informed the Coa~nission that plans for said construction, upon which Bids were solicited, in- corporated the latter and as such had been approved by the State Board of Health no slternate could be considered. Commissioner Strong concurred with City Hanager~s comment and the Comission agreed that construction of the Pool must be of reinforced poured concrete in conformance with plans provided.
